Dreamland
In 2019, I created a look inspired by Leonora Carrington's work, specifically her painting White People. The constant use of surrealism to create dreamlike images was the inspiration for this photoshoot, featuring one of the pieces from my Dragonflies capsule collection and this outfit.
To link these two concepts, I explored the meaning of dreaming about fireflies, which in many cultures is closely associated with luck, change, movement, love, and sexual desire. This led me to create these images, which evoke the warm feeling of a pleasant dream.
Design process
White People was one of Carrington's later paintings, and although she never explained it, it's possible that this painting explores the boundaries between what is visible and invisible, something that can only be achieved in the realm of dreams.
I decided to create a gown that would be perfect for a dream explorer, featuring a comfortable silhouette with soft curves reminiscent of a pajama set, and an embroidered texture inspired by the cloudy and smoky imagery of the painting. This texture would serve as camouflage to blend into the dream world, making the visible invisible.
Textile design
To create this texture, the fabric was fully embroidered using yarn and golden thread. This handcrafted work took about a month to complete.
The silhouette of the 'ghosts,' the wrinkles in their dresses, and the cloudy texture of the painting served as inspiration for the gown's pattern
Shall we collaborate? say hi!
